Madeira Drive is alive...!

It's Friday again - already! It seems like only yesterday we were looking forward to a weekend of fun and frolics on Madeira Drive. We weren't disappointed. As always the unexpected provided the most entertainment. On Saturday we attended InCarNation. An event run by Ace Cafe and Fueltopia. We expected to see a huge variety of cars including Hot Rods, vintage cars, American Cars and modified cars. What we got was a scene straight out of The Fast and the Furious! It was quite amazing. Not quite our thing but great for the enthusiastic modifier. How those cars stay in one piece with that level of bass coming from the speakers I'll never know! It was all good fun though and the atmosphere as usual was great. The sun shone as well as the bodywork.
Before we even got to the cars we were in for a treat. Just setting up was a motorcycle / car stunt team. We watched one of the guys warming up on his bike. There was a ramp that he was practising on. A little jump here a wheelie there then, Oh my god! What's he doing??? The next thing we knew he was up the ramp flying high into the air before landing on another ramp that neither of us had spotted behind it. We looked at each other both realising that neither of us had spotted the second ramp and landing spot. Phew! It was only then we were told that the safety bag hadn't yet been blown up because they were having trouble with the generator - crazy dude!!! We thought we better stick around it looked like it could be an interesting show. We were definitely not disappointed. The acrobatic stunts that were performed high in the air were amazing but scary at the same time. You wanted to watch but it sometime made you feel sick to do so. I got it easy - I just took the photos. Hats off the to guys at East Coast FMX - it was a great show.
Sunday saw the Pioneer motorcycle club head into town. We weren't expecting too much here if we're honest but we were pleasantly surprised. Row upon row of bikes from all eras graced Madeira Drive as we made our way up towards the main event. Which we missed pretty much! By the time we had finished looking at the other motorbikes and taking picture most of the Pioneer bikes had been stowed away in their trailers heading for home. It was still an amazing turnout though. We were both surprised at how many of these bikes are still in existence and good working condition. What also surprised us was the amount of young people riding them and taking an interest. It's great to think that these bikes that are such an important part of motorcycle history will continue to be looked after for many years to come.
So Madeira Drive is alive once more, the fun starts here. We are really looking forward to the Mini rally. Particularly so because we once attended it in Martyns second Mini. That was an adventure, camping on Crystal Palace the night before, following the only Mini not on the rally and nearly getting lost and camping in a very spooky place called Spellbrook on route home. We ended up sleeping in the car. Kids walking round with shotguns in the night and a huge thunderstorm saw us leave the tent for fear of our lives!!!
We have had a full week of sunshine and warm temperatures which has been lovely. I have tried to make the most of it and as usual have ended up with a lovely pink stripe and sore head. I'd say lesson learned but it wouldn't be true! My first trip to the beach was on Wednesday. I decided it was time to get out and about for the day. Put the job hunting to rest for a while and enjoy the sights of Brighton. I planned a walk into town, a spot of window shopping followed by a visit to Starbucks, a bar of Dairy Milk and a well placed bench on which to sit and rest my feet on the sea front. The walk was good, the window shopping was well, window shopping not very exciting when you can't buy anything and so I was looking forward to a much needed rest with a nice coffee and a bit of chocolate. Chocolate purchased, coffee purchased just need to find that bench now. I hit the seafront to be faced with hoards of people. Where did this lot come from? It's a Wednesday! Does nobody work anymore...? Finding a spot was not going to be easy. I quickly realised that anything West of the Pier was going to be a non starter so I headed East for the marina. Dodging people here, avoiding prams, wheelchairs, children on scooters and slow walkers I finally spotted the bench. it was some way ahead and there were people everywhere. I watched them as they approached the bench relieved as they continued passed. Nearly there, it looked like it was mine for the taking. There was a gap in the crowd, no-one in front of me and no-one approaching from the other side. It was mine...! Relieved I proudly parked my behind and released my feet from their toil. The stress of getting to the bench had made me walk faster and harder and now my feet were killing me in my £6 bargain pumps. I took my bag from my shoulder and pulled out the much anticipated bar of chocolate. Just as I began to peel the wrapper I sensed that I was not alone. Two rather large, elderly ladies appeared at the bench and began to make themselves comfortable. At this point it became apparent that if all three of us were to sit on the bench together it would be something of a snug fit. This was not how I had planned the highlight of my day. I left the bench and decided the only place to go was the beach. The ladies made faint protests at me leaving. "You don't have to go lovey..." 'Oh yes I do...' I thought. It was at that point I also realised that all the way along the seafront nearly all the accents I had heard appeared to be Yorkshire. I thought how funny it was that in Hebden Bridge all you heard was Southern accents is that because all the Northerners are in Brighton?! I found myself a nice quiet piece of beach and made myself comfy. It was the first time since Christmas Day that I had sat on the beach and I made the most of it.  The sun was just warm enough to make me start to think about the long summer days to come and of days on the beach.  Summer is just around the corner and I for one can't wait...!
